ICCIDD has
two well appointed laboratories where facilities exist for
urine iodine estimation and salt iodine estimation. The laboratory
system is under the leadership of Prof. M.G Karmarkar. This
is one of the resource laboratories of IRLI Network. These
labs are well equipped to:
1. Testing of industry samples
and provide quality assurance to the manufacturers. The protocol
is given below:

Assurance Programme
External Quality Assurance:
The
ICCIDD laboratory in New Delhi will maintain external
quality assurance programme with the manufacturer's laboratory.
For this, five salt samples from the production site collected
randomly on five different days, and analysed at their
laboratory, in the first two weeks of every month should
be sent to us by the prescribed date, in consonance with
the system that we will explain to the manufacturer. ICCIDD
laboratory at New Delhi will analyse these samples and
send the results to the manufacturer's office at the end
of each month. This will be compared with the results
of analyses done at the manufacturer's lab.
ICCIDD laboratory will
send five samples every month to your production site
laboratory. We will analyze these samples six times and
the results of the analyses will be sent to your office.
The laboratory at your production site will be required
to analyse these samples in duplicate and send the results
to us and to the Manufacturer's office.
At the end of the month,
ICCIDD laboratory will compile the results and send a
copy to the manufacturers along with any corrections needed.
Internal Quality Assurance:
The
manufacturer's laboratory at production site should analyse
one known value sample every day along with unknown samples
analysed routinely and maintain Levy Jenning Plot. The
procedure for this will be explained to laboratory personnel
during our visit to your production site and laboratory.
Copy of Levy Jenning Plot of each month will be required
to be sent to our laboratory.
ICCIDD Technical
Team will visit manufacturing site initially for establishing
the internal quality assessment programme and subsequently
for in site assessment and advice once a year.
Institutional
Training of Lab personnel (Regional as well as National) -
Salt Commissionerate, Medical / Home Science or Public Health
Institutions and others.
ICCIDD
has also developed a laboratory
Mannual for training of laboratory personnel.
